The Greek myth of Orpheus and Euridice
The Greek myth of Orpheus and Euridice
Ricky Ian Gordon's take on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice comes to the Cincinnati Opera for the 2026 season! Conducted by Stephen Mulligan and featuring Heidi Middendorf as Euridice and Christopher Pell as Orpheus, the work takes the classic story and refreshes it with a contemporary atmosphere under the direction of Audrey Chait, with choreography from Yoshihisa Arai.
In the Greek Myth, renowned musician Orpheus deeply mourns the loss of his wife Eurydice. He eventually ventures into the underworld to retrieve his soulmate, using his musical ability to tug at the heartstrings of Hades himself in a bid to convince him to let Eurydice return to the world of the living. Thus begins Orpheus' supernatural journey and ultimate test of patience and resolve, in the ultimate show of eternal love for his bride.
