Still 'Ever Popular' without the 'Tortured Effect'

This performer is not one of those aging rockers playing local festivals and trying to live off of a couple of old hits, but a real artist that continues to create great new music after ~50 years (White Knight) and better versions of himself. He seems to have been gifted with a 'Tony Bennett' like larynx as his voice and range holds up nicely in a more than 2.5 hour show! A loyalist since the early '70's, I continue to be amazed at his creative talents and sometimes forgetful of the large library of original music that he's created. I also had an opportunity to meet and chat with TR before the show and he's quite humble and kind, talking about his software creation (Flow Fazer) and bragging about his son Randy a former minor/major league baseball player now coaching in Northern Ohio. Hey R&R HoF: TR is YOUR loss, not his. ... Read more

Eclectic and Entertaining

The fact that TR's "hit wonder" followers were probably not expecting the set-list of the Cincinnati Me/We show is further evidence of his credo of IDGAF artistic and eclectic performances. Playing some songs for the first time live and some not-so-well-known songs across a wide array of genres, including one a Capela tune followed immediately by the hard rock performance of 'Rock Love' would test any performers ability to deliver, which he did. He played for almost exactly two hours, with no break except prior to the encore. His voice was incredibly strong and could cover a wide range of genres simultaneously. Recall that he will turn 76 in two months and is now touring over 50 cities, performing several times a week, a test even for those half his age. Truly a Wizard and True Star. ... Read more

todd in boulder

All of the best concerts I have gone to, have a common denominator - I knew nothing of the artist and their music at the time. No. 1 on that list - Todd, on the first Utopia tour. I'm still blown away. May 30 2019 in Boulder - I give it 4 stars because my wife loved it. He played most of his "hits" and "near misses", and maybe favorites of his that you wouldn't expect him to play, such as "Fair Warning". The songs I enjoyed the most were the ones I have heard the least, like "I Don't Want to Tie You Down". I bought all his records and played them heavily after seeing him the first time, and this is the third time since then. He's never measured up to the first time, but that is probably not his fault. The encore was Just One Victory. It felt great to sing along. But Kasim Sulton should be ashamed of himself for not even trying to play John Siegler's bass part in that song. C'mon, man! (I still miss John and Kevin Ellman.) ... Read more
