Depicting how two legendary female musicians changed what modern music is, Marie and Rosetta tells the story of artists Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight. Widely known as the godmother of Rock 'n' Roll the tale of Rosetta and her relationship with Marie is packed into a lineup of stellar performances.
Rising to fame in the 1930s and 40s with her gospel music, being one of the first big stars of this genre. Her music was not only popular with gospel fans but with R&B and rock 'n' roll audiences also. During this time, Rosetta saw another singer Marie Knight perform and was so impressed by her outstanding talent that she invited her to join her on tour.
Years later, and the legacy of these two ladies is carried on, with their music having influenced everyone from Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Johnny Cash.
