Wagner's First Operatic Masterpiece
Two decades after it was last performed by the Cincinnati Opera, Wagner's breathtaking epic opera graces the Music Hall Stage once more. A whirlwind of dizzying duets, tempestuous monologues and relentless drama, the production takes listeners on a stormy journey on the high seas where the titular Flying Dutchman, seeks redemption on the arms of the woman he loves. American soprano Marcy Stonikas and Grammy Award winning bass baritone Nathan Berg perform as Senta and the Dutchman respectively.
After defying God, a fearsome captain is cursed to sail the seas as a ghost until he is given the chance to find his true love every seven years, when he is washed ashore. His eternal quest for redemption leads him to the sailor Darland, who offers him his daughter Senta's hand in marriage unaware that he is the Flying Dutchman of Legend. Yet Senta is betrothed to the huntsman Erik, and a passionate, ultimately tragic, love triangle ensues.
