The USA Premiere Of The Pink Floyd Opera
Prog rock and opera. The two seem an unlikely pairing, but a new genre has blossomed in the form of Another Brick in the Wall: The Opera. Conceived by Pink Floyd founder and bassist Roger Waters, composer Julien Bilodeau and prolific playwright Dominic Champagne, the opera is based on The Wall, the seminal masterpiece of an album that defined the band and cemented their legacy in rock and roll history.
The story, performed by a eight soloists, a 48-strong chorus and a 70-piece orchestra, follows the hallucinatory journey of rock star Pink as he tries to come to terms with an imperfect world and the imperfections within himself. Raised by an overprotective mother after his father is killed in World War II, Pink escapes the totalitarian society in which they live by becoming an celebrated rock icon. Yet when this fame-filled world proves no different, he isolates himself and is almost lost to his own alienation.
